the latest "Q&As" to recent Space Explorers
audioconferences!
- So what are
audioconferences?
Using standard telephones, many people
from all over the country, or world, can
participate simultaneously in the same telephone
"conference", where everyone can listen
to whomever is currently talking.
- When are they?
You are invited to join any one of the ten
recorded audioconferences held each week between
October 15 - 28 November . Check out our
schedule for a time
that best suits your timetable.
- What do you need for
your class to take part?
All you will need is a good quality hands-free
speakerphone to take part in regular Telecom
AudioConferences, and access to a fax machine to
receive the weekly agenda for the audioconference
topics. If you do not have a speaker phone, check
out our advice before you purchase. You will also need a PIN number
which you will be asked for when you dial the
special audioConferencing number. You will
recieve these numbers if you are registered with
the programme.
- How do you join?
If you are a teacher and would like to register
for the Space Explorers module, complete our on-line
registration form.
- What does it cost?
National and local call charges for
audioconferencing are 72 cents per minute or part
of a minute, for each caller (this rate may be
less depending on the call plan your school has,
or if it is a member of Edcom). You can also use
your Telecom Learning Line for audioconferencing, faxing, or
to connect a modem for email or Internet access
during this programme.
- Can I use
audioconferencing for anything else?
If you plan to undertake a number of
audioconferences or if you are working with other
schools on this or other programmes, Three Way
Calling might be worth considering. Three Way
Calling costs $3.95 per month in addition to your
standard Telecom charges. This facility allows
you to dial two other schools and bring them into
a conference call. The school that makes the
contact call pays the charge for all schools
on-line. Schools interested in having this
service added should phone Telecom Business
Services by dialling 126.
