Governments spend money on space exploration or
should it be spent on other things? Investigate
the "spin-offs" of space technology
research and the products we use today that have
been born from it.
- Science Fiction: Does science
fiction lead the way as a source of ideas for
scientistsand engineers? How close have past
predictions been about the products we use and
the kind of environments we live in today. Why is
it Sci-Fi so popular? Investigate the famous
writers, such as Arthur C. Clarke. Watch some
famous Space movies or check out the web sites of
current TV series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek.
- What other countries are
involved in space exploration? Do they do it on
their own or do they team up to share
technologies and research? Do you think space
exploration could divide countries against each
other or bring them closer together? Think of
possible future scenarios that could do either.
- Why do we send humans into
space when it's dangerous and expensive? Why not
use animals and robots with cameras and sensors?
- Why is so much information
about space published on the Internet?
- Terraforming: How could we
convert a barren planet into a lush environment
like Earth suitable for humans to live on. What
would we need to do and how long would it take?
Some people believe we shouldn't do it even if we
could! Why? Some say we need to think about it
now so when the Earth is so overpopulated in the
future, we will have another new planet ready to
inhabit. What do you think?
