Hobbit holes

The richest and poorest hobbits lived in hobbit holes. Others lived in low houses. The poor could not afford houses. The rich could afford to build holes with the comfort of a large house.

The kitchen was very important, and was in use a lot during the day. A hobbit would not feel well if he missed one of his at least five meals.

The windows as well as the doors were usually round. This was also common for Hobbit houses, and hobbit holes. If they did not live in holes, they had very low buildings, because they hated heights (as well as water and boats).

You would always find a well tended flower bed and maybe a kitchen garden outside a hobbit hole.

What did Bag End look like?

Hobbiton is the name of the village where the hobbits lived, and Bag End is Bilbo's home. This picture is from the Lord of the Rings movie, showing how Peter Jackson thinks Bag End would look.
