Sapphire

Sapphire is an Aluminum Oxide Corundum. This gemstone is very popular, and comes in almost every color but red, in which case it is a Ruby. It can be blue, purple, violet, green, yellow, green, colourless, pink, orange, and black. All colors can be light to dark..

They are very hard and tough, and do not easily get scratched.

Sapphires stand for truth and sincerity. It was believed to protect the wearer against being caught by an enemy. and to win the favor of princesses. It also protected you against poison. The word sapphire comes from a Greek word meaning blue.

Sapphires come from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Australia, Burma, Africa, Cambodia and Montana, U.S.A.

Sapphires can be man-made in laboratories, and some of them are very hard to tell from the real thing. A lot of sapphires have their colour and clarity improved by being carefully heated up.
