Ruby

Ruby is an Aluminum Oxide, a variety of Corundum. They are very valuable and popular, and can be red, violetish-red, pinkish-red and brownish-red. The red color is caused by minute traces of chromium.

It is a very hard and tough stone, and will not easily break or scratch. Generally speaking, the best looking rubies come from Burma, Thailand and Ceylon. However there are so few rubies found now, that most big ones are much more rare than diamonds, and more expensive.

The legend connected with Ruby is that the wearer was blessed with health, wealth, and wisdom, as well as being lucky in love.
