LUNA ROSSA BEATS AMERICA ONE AND WINS THE LOUIS VUITTON CUP

For the first time in history an Italian skipper will race the America's Cup.Francesco de Angelis, the first Italian skipper ever in his first America's Cup, won the Louis Vuitton Cup and will race in the America's Cup match.

It is the first time in history that the America's Cup will be raced with no American boats as challenger or defender.

At the closing press conference Francesco de Angelis said: "It has been a great day. It is the first time I have competed in an America's Cup. The United States of America held the Cup for many years. The fact that an Italian team has reached such a result means that the world of sailing has changed. Having to race nine matches to get to the final result has been great for this sport.

Our victory has been a victory of the whole team, not one person only. To win a race everything has to be in the right place at the right moment and it has been so for us. We have been able to go through our difficulties thanks to our team that has always been united. The fact that we had to race the final match with only point difference from AmericaOne means that our boats are pretty even in speed and performance, very good all-round boats".
