  1. Since European settlement began on Tiritiri Matangi the forest landscape has changed. Describe how and why the lighthouse keepers' changed the land.







  2. Ray Walter was the last lighthouse keeper and now manages the island for the Department of Conservation.

    1. Describe the type of life Ray would have had when he and his family were tending the lighthouse.







    2. How has his life changed now that the island is an open bird sanctuary? Describe the changes.







  3. The supporters' groups are able to come and stay on the island for short periods of time. Describe the type of activities they can be involved in on the island.
