Warmth
Warm lighting is reddish or yellowish.

Washed-out
Washed out colours are weak or pale - the opposite of saturated.

Whip pan
A sudden, fast pan

White balance
Adjusting a camera to the colour of the light which is falling on the subject.

Wild track
Natural background sound from a location, recorded to cover any gaps caused by editing or by removing unwanted sounds.

Wide shot (WS)
A shot where people (if they appear) are small in the setting. Often used at the start of a film as an 'establishing shot' to show where the action is taking place; also used to make a figure seems small or isolated.

Wide angle
Lens or shot where the camera takes in a relatively wide angle of the scene.

Wipe
Transition where one image replaces another, with the border between the images moving across or around the screen.
