Yakushima is an island with heavy rainfall and lush greenery. It's a circular island, measuring about 27 kilometers from north to south and about 28 kilometers from east to west. It has a number of peaks rising over 1,000 meters above sea level, including Mount Miya-no-ura (1,935 meters), the tallest peak in Kyushu. There are many cedar trees that are more than 1,000 years old, including the 2,700-year-old Jomon cedar. The island is included on Unesco's World Heritage list.
