The bullet train passes the ancient capital of Kyoto and then reaches Osaka, the biggest city in western Japan. Here it stops for a couple of minutes and then heads on to Kobe, which was devastated by an earthquake in 1995, and then Hiroshima, known as the city where the world's first atomic bomb was dropped in World War II. Finally, about five hours after leaving Tokyo, the train arrives at Hakata Station in the city of Fukuoka. Fukuoka has a population of 1.27 million and is the largest city in Kyushu. Prior to the leaders' meeting in Okinawa, the ministers in charge of financial affairs of the G8 countries will meet at the Fukuoka City Museum, a very modern-looking building. About 40 minutes from Fukuoka Airport, you arrive at Miyazaki Airport. The city of Miyazaki is where the G8 ministers in charge of foreign affairs will meet prior to the Okinawa leaders' meeting. The meeting will be held at the World Convention Center inside Seagaia, a large resort facility.
