Aquamarine

Aquamarine got its name from "Sea Water" and ranges from pale blues to dark blues to greenish blue in color.  Aquamarine is said to re-awaken love in long-married couples and help the making of new friends. To wear Aquamarine would bring love and affection. In the olden days, people believed the gemstone gave courage to the wearer, helped you to win arguments, made you smarter, and cured laziness.

Aquamarine comes from the mineral Beryl, which also produces Emerald (green), Golden Beryl (yellow) and Morganite (pink). It is quite a hard stone. The deeper the blue color, the rarer the stone, which makes it more expensive. Although it is quite a rare stone, it is cheaper than buying an emerald.

Aquamarine is found in the Denver area of the USA, and is also found in Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Brazil.

Almost Aquamarine comes out of the ground greenish blue.  The heating of Aquamarine in laboratories has been an accepted practice for decades. Nearly every Aquamarine is heated to cook out the yellow and green color so that they become a truer blue in color.  This process is permanent and has no effect on the durability of the stone.
