What should we do?

When you arrive in New Zealand, you have to fill in a form. It asks you whether you are bringing in anything you are not allowed to. On the form it tells you what animal and plant and foods are not allowed.

The safest thing is to write on the form, if you have ANYTHING that is on the list. Then you go through a special part of customs, where they will ask you about what you have, and tell you what to do about it.

They may let you have it. Or they may take it away and fumigate it, and you can collect it later. Or they may say you are not allowed to keep it. Remember, this is to keep New Zealand safe!

If you like, you can throw any food you forgot about into an amnesty bin. If you find you have some leftover fruit or other food, just put it in there.

Once you have gone past this bin, there may be sniffer dogs looking for any food in your luggage or in your pockets.

And what happens if you don't declare what you are bringing in, and they find it hidden on your clothing or in your bags?
