Big modern airports have large numbers of planes flying in and out. To make sure they do not crash into each other in the sky, pilots must do what they are told by air traffic controllers.

These are people on the ground who use radar, and tell planes where and when to move on the ground, when they can take off, and what height to fly at.

They keep in contact with the pilot by radio.
