These bus tickets are nearly fifty years old! Compare them with a bus ticket that you would buy today. |
Fifty years ago, buses had a driver and a conductor. The conductor walked up and down the bus with a ticket machine hanging round their neck and they sold you the tickets while you were sitting down. At first this was a job for men, but during World War Two most of the men went off to fight, and women took over the job. |
The conductor would punch a hole in your ticket so that you could not use it again. You can see some of these tickets cost one penny! |
