Saving the Oceans

Sir Peter had always worried about the state of the water in the oceans, and how polluted it was getting. He noticed that there were fewer birds and fish around, and he worried that they would not be there for his children and their children to enjoy.

When he finished the second America's Cup campaign, he joined the Cousteau Society for a while as their leader, looking after the environment.

Then he set up Blake Expeditions, using the boat Seamaster to explore the oceans of the world, and make people think about looking after the world and not polluting it.

He had just finished sailing for three months in Antarctica and, after spending two months in the upper reaches of the Amazon, was about to move on to the Orinoco, when he was killed.

Many children were following his adventures on the internet.
