How he was killed

The Seamaster was anchored at the mouth of the Amazon River in Brazil, near a town called Macapa.

Everyone was getting ready to leave the next day to sail on to the Caribbean.

The people on board went on shore for dinner, and came back to sit on the boat and have a drink.

The boat was anchored out in the river, and some pirates armed with guns, crept on board and threatened the crew. They wanted to steal anything valuable from them, like cameras, watches or money.

Peter Blake crept down below to get a rifle, and came back up to protect his crew. He was shot twice in the back, and died immediately.

The pirates, or "River Rats" who killed him were arrested within a few days by the Brazilian police. They were violent criminals who had done this kind of thing before.
