Olympian
A True Story

This story happened at the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck.

The event was the two-man bobsleigh trials.

The Italian champion Eugenio Monti recorded the fastest time with only one competitor to go, Tony Nash and his partner from Great Britian. However a piece of Tony's sled was broken so he would not be able to race, Eugenio would win the gold medal. But Eugenio felt this was not right. He felt everyone should have a fair chance of winning so he removed part of his sled and gave it to Tony Nash and his partner.

Tony fixed his sled, raced in the fastest time and won the gold medal.

Eugenio was a true Olympian.

The end of the story happened four years later when Eugenio was part of the four-man bobsleigh team in France when Italy won the gold medal.
