Get to know the metric system! Converting from miles (mi) to kilometers (km) - and vice-versa - is easy. All you need is a couple of numbers. You should know the following:
1 Mile = 1.609 Kilometers
Once you're familiar with these two numbers, the rest is simple! If you know a distance in miles, and you'd like to find out how far it is in kilometers - just multiply miles by 1.609. Example: It is 27 miles from my house to Cal Poly University. How far is that in kilometers?
27 X 1.609 = 43 kilometers
If you know a distance in kilometers, and you'd like to find out how far it is in miles - just divide kilometers by 1.609. Example: It is 43 kilometers from my house to Cal Poly University. How far is that in miles?
43/1.609 = 27 miles
Easy, you see?
