Keeping things warm

When we want to keep things warm, we put something that is a very bad conductor around them. That way, it doesn't let much heat escape to the cold air.

With a teapot, we could put a tea cosy around it. The hot tea is touching the china or metal teapot, and the energy will go from where it's hot, to where it's not, and cool it down. Putting the tea cosy on means that the outside of the pot is warm too, so the heat energy doesn't move so fast.
