What insulation does

Insulation stops heat energy moving. It keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold.

A thermos has insulation around the outside. If you put something cold in it, it will stay cold for a long time. If you put something hot in it, it will take a lot longer to cool down.

An insulator is a very bad conductor of heat. Do you think metal would be an insulator?
