What animals do

Animals do the same as people - they sweat when they get hot, and shiver when they get cold.

Many animals have fur or wool, and can't sweat through their skin. They open their mouth and pant, and the heat is lost from their tongues. It isn't easy for an animal to cool down by panting.

A dog that is panting a lot is too hot, and you should take them into the shade, and give them a drink of water. You should never leave a dog or a baby in the car in the sun, because they could die.

When they are cold, they shiver, and they curl up very tightly to keep warm. They fluff up their fur too, to trap more air.
