The Task:

Your task will be to travel to the Amazon, and other areas of rainforest in South America. You will need to learn everything you can about the environment there, and how it supports animal and insect life.

You will need to think about why big companies are chopping down the forests, and whether the people in New Zealand are doing anything (maybe buying things?) that is making the problem worse.

You must learn how the rainforests support life, and find out how a food chain, and a food web works. Then you will be able to see how damage to one part of the chain affects all the other parts. You must find out about the different roles that animals have in the food chain.

When you return to New Zealand, you will be speaking to a group of concerned citizens, and telling them about what you have learned, and what you think they could do to help preserve the world's rainforests. You will present your ideas with a slideshow, and also write a formal letter to the editor of a newspaper, that will persuade people to help save the animals.
