Tonga

Tonga is one of the few islands in Polynesia that has not been run by another country. In Tonga, they have their own king.

The islands are also called the Friendly Islands.

There are 171 islands, but many of them don't have anyone living on them. The bigger islands have good soil, and you can grow lots of food to eat.

Tongan people enjoy dancing, and many of their dances tell a story. Dances honour special people, or special things that have happened.

This photo is of Ma'ulu'ulu dancers.

People are very good at weaving, and make many things from woven leaves.

Here mats are woven from fresh leaves, to put over a fire that will steam this fish.
