Locusts love to eat grass, leaves and plants. They chew their food with two pairs of jaws. The first pair of jaws, called mandibles, have teeth. Feelers, called 'palps' on the second pair of jaws taste the food before it is chewed up. Locusts are ravenous eaters. They like to eat a lot. A locust is able to eat it's own weight in food everyday! Locusts can become pests to farmers who grow crops. If locusts become a swarm they will eat all the vegetation in sight.
