Victoria is crowned
Next

The Royal Family was not very popular at that time, but the people of Britain soon came to love and admire their new Queen. She was very tiny, and stood barely five feet high.

At her coronation, when she was crowned, she looked barely strong enough to wear the heavy crown.

She worked very hard at her job, and regularly met with the Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne. He was a lot older, and he encouraged her to take a very conservative approach to ruling the country.

He was so protective that he advised her against reading books by Charles Dickens, because he thought the books were full of "unpleasant subjects" such as people who were poor, or criminals.

The young Queen had many cousins, and she fell deeply in love with one of them, Prince Albert from Germany. He was not very popular with the people of Britain, but they were married in 1840, when Victoria was 21.
