Traditional Costume

When the children in Spain are going to school, or in the weekends, they wear exactly the same kinds of clothes as people wear in New Zealand. This photo of Spanish children doesn't look any different from pictures of New Zealand children, does it?

But on special occasions, sometimes they dress up in traditional costumes, and look very Spanish! These girls are on the way to a special festival, and they are dressed up to look like flamenco dancers.

One traditional item of clothing worn by Spanish women is the mantilla. It is a piece of black lace, and it is draped over a high comb worn at the back of the head.

These women are walking in a religious festival, and they are wearing the mantilla as a sign of respect.

These friends are dressed in traditional clothing, and riding a horse.
