In the Netherlands, they have a Parliament with representatives from 12 political parties. (In New Zealand, how many parties are represented - more than this, or less?) One party never wins on its own, and it needs to cooperate and compromise with other parties in order to govern the nation.
This is called a coalition government. We have one in New Zealand too. Which two parties form our present coalition?

There is also a royal family in this country, but it is very different from the British Royal Family. They don't get in the papers at all, and they live a very private life. The royal family is respected by nearly every citizen of the Netherlands. |
Queen Beatrix (born in 1938) is the most popular member of the Dutch Royal Family. She has been on the throne since 30 April 1980. She is admired for how hard she works, and for her lovely smile. Behind the scenes, she has a lot to do with Dutch politics. Her son Willem Alexander will become the King of Holland after her.
