Rivers of Germany

One of the biggest rivers in Europe, the Rhine, flows through Germany. This photo is of a boat travelling down the river.

When you go to Germany, you can travel up and down on the river to see the country. The hills on the side here are so steep that the roads have to go back and forward instead of straight up.

This town, Steyr, is on the banks of a smaller river. This means there has to be a bridge so that people can cross from one side to the other.

In the olden days, it was easier to travel by boat up and down the rivers, than it was by road. That is why so many important towns were built beside rivers.
