Many of the German people live in cities, but some of them live in villages in the country. Here you can see a photo of some children riding off to the next village on their bikes. Maybe they are on their way to school! If you look carefully, you will see that they are on the right hand side of the road. Why aren't they keeping left, like children are taught to do in New Zealand? Isn't it dangerous for them riding on the right hand side of the road? |

The old parts of the cities have some buildings made of stone or brick, and some of wood. The one on the left side of the picture to the right looks very like English houses of wood and plaster. Do you think this part of the city was built before cars were invented or afterwards. Why? The big cities have parks for people to go in summer when they want to enjoy being outdoors. This park is called The English Garden! |
ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS:
1. The walls are thick to keep the houses warm in the cold winters.
2. The roof is very steep so that snow will slide off it. If the roof was like ours, the snow would sit on top and get so heavy that the roof would collapse!
3. The windows are small so that the cold air doesn't make the house cold.
