There are very many famous French painters, and their paintings are on display all over the world.

This is a painting by an artist called Degas, and it is called the Ballet dancers.

One of the places tourists go to visit when they are in Paris is the Louvre. It is one of the most famous art galleries in the whole world.

The main building is very old, and you can see it in the photo, on the right. But in the courtyard is a very modern building made of glass and metal, called the Pyramid. It is quite different in style to the old building, but people in Paris really like it.

When you go inside the Louvre, you can walk around by yourself, or with a guide, and see many famous works of art.

These people are looking at a statue called the Venus de Milo. It is a very old statue of a beautiful Greek and Roman goddess of love. Unfortunately her arms have been broken off (after all, she is thousands of years old!), but she is still very beautiful.

One of the most famous and valuable paintings in the Louvre, is the Mona Lisa. This is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, a famous Italian artist who painted it about five hundred years ago. It is so valuable that the museum has to have lots of guards and security to protect it. The colors of the painting have faded to shades of yellow because it is so old.

If you're having trouble seeing where the Mona Lisa is in this photo, it's the tiny painting in the dim chamber protected by bulletproof glass. As you can see, it is very small&emdash;only 77 centimeters high.

Because so many people come to see it, mostly all you can see is the back of people's heads! You can't get to see the painting at all!
