What do children do?

One of the most popular sports in the United Kingdom is football. In New Zealand we would call it soccer. Some of the clubs are very big and wealthy.

In Euro 2000, lots of English fans went to Europe to watch games (even though France was the country that eventually won. Some of the fans behaved so badly that they were sent home by the police. They got into fights, and were not good sports.

Children in the UK have to do their homework every night, just the same as children in New Zealand (or all the other European countries for that matter). The hours that they go to school are very like those in New Zealand.

That is because many of the early settlers in New Zealand came from Britain, and they set up schools like the ones they had back home.

Many children learn to play music. Some learn to play the piano, but this boy is learning to play the recorder.

If you lived in Scotland, you might learn to play the bagpipes! See if you can find some bagpipe music to listen to. Maybe you would like to learn, too!

The girls often enjoy going shopping for clothes. Do you think the clothes that children wear in Britain are any different from the clothes you wear?

There are some games and activities that children in the United Kingdom take part in that are different from ours.

Why couldn't you do this in Auckland?

Are there parts of New Zealand where you could make a snowman?

Look at the clothes the children are wearing. It would take a long time to get dressed up warmly enough to be able to play outside, wouldn't it!
