Getting Around

One of the most convenient ways to travel around is by bus. This photo shows a famous double-decker red London bus going past St Pauls.

If you sit upstairs, especilly at the front, you get a wonderful view of where you are going.

Like many major cities in Europe, London has an underground train system. You go down huge escalators to get to the stations underneath the city. There you can catch trains that travel quickly all around London, without getting caught up in the incredible traffic jams up on the streets.

The local people usually prefer to travel by train, because it is so slow travelling by car, and so difficult finding somewhere to park.

Like children everywhere, it can be a lot of fun to travel by bicycle!

For travelling up and down the country it is often quick and easy to catch a train. This man is waiting at Paddington Station for his train. If you look in the library for Paddington Bear, you will be able to read some stories about a small bear that was found at the famous Paddington Station, and named after it!

Britain is an island, and many people enjoy sailing in their spare time. This is a small town in Devon, where people moor their boats until they can use them in weekends or holidays.
