Pteranodon (TER-an-o-don)

Pteranodon was a flying lizard, not a dinosaur, but it must have been an impressive sight to behold. This light-boned animal had a wing span of 23 feet (7 meters), about the width of a house! Discovered in Wyoming around 1876, Pteranodon had joints and muscles that allowed it to flap its wings to gain altitude and stay aloft for long periods of time. Despite its amazing wing span, the body might have weighed as little as 37 pounds (17kg), about the same weight as a human toddler!
