Balance is very important in both nature and art. Unbalanced art just doesn't "look right."

Things can be balanced symmetrically or asymmetrically.

Most art is balanced. If an artwork is not balanced, it looks like it will tip over.
 

Unbalanced nature couldn't survive. A person needs two legs to walk well. A shark needs an equal number and size of fins, or it would swim in circles.

Animals are symmetrically balanced from side to side and asymmetrically balanced from front to back!
