What it looked like
Parasaurolophus was a strange looking duck-billed dinosaur. Its very long hollow crest was bigger than the rest of its head and may have been used to make foghorn-like sounds. The Parasaurolophus' nostrils (at the end of its snout) went up through the crest and back down it, forming four tubes. The crest was nearly 2m long.

It weighed about 3 to 4 tons. It had rough skin, a spoon-shaped beak, and a pointy tail. It may have had webbed fingers but scientists are not sure of this. Its sight and hearing were good, but it had no natural defenses. It had a toothless, horny beak and many cheek teeth..

What it ate
Parasaurolophus was an herbivore, and ate pine needles, leaves, and twigs. Fossilized stomach contents have been found, showing it mostly ate land plants.

How it moved around
Parasaurolophus walked and ran on two legs, and was quite fast for a dinosaur. It probably went on all fours to find plants for food. It may have spent some time in the water.

How it probably behaved
Parasaurolophus may have been a herding animal that lived in groups. There is no evidence that Parasaurolophus spent much time in the water. Scientists used to think that its crest was used as a snorkel-like device, showing that the animal spent a lot of time in the water, but since the crest has no nostril at the top, this is no longer believed.
