Kuping Gajah (elephant ears)

by Hariyati Fahey from Indonesia

These pastries are called this because they are shaped like elephant ears. They are a favorite of many people in my country. They are served at weddings, at Christmas time and at the Idul-Fitre, a celebration for Muslims(Ramadan).They are one of my favorite foods. I like them because they have a chocolate taste.

Ingredients:

* 250 grams of plain flour

* 60 grams of icing sugar

* 75 cc. of coconut cream

* 1 tablespoon of margarine

* 2 tablespoons of chocolate powder (cocoa)

* 1 egg

* oil for deep-frying

Method:

1. Mix 1 egg and the icing sugar in a bowl until soft.

2. Add some margarine, coconut cream, plain flour and chocolate powder. Mix to form a mixture.

3. Roll out on paper until thin and roll into a roll of pastry.

4. Put in the freezer for 30 minutes and then cut with a knife into very thin pieces

5. Cook with oil until brown.
