Good morning Puhinui School. It's me again. Well, another weekend has just passed and today it is raining a little. We have our car so no more wet bike travelling. We only use our bikes in the dry now.
Nothing much happening over here at the moment. My birthday is on Sunday and I will be 30 years old. Karna is organising a big party for me which will be great. First we will go to an onsen which is like a natural springs bath. The Japanese bathe in the nude so that is a little scary but they don't look at you funny or anything.
On Sunday this weekend we coached rugby skills to children aged between 9 and 12 years old. We are from NZ so we are the most qualified JETs to perform such a job, apparently. I got my first taste of real second class woman attitude.
Karna and I planned the morning together. We set off to the park which is about 15km away from where we live. We set up our activities and waited for it to begin. Well, the reporters from papers and TV came but they only wanted to talk to Karna. I stood right beside him but they didnt even look at me. There were girls in the group we were coaching but they were non existent in the eyes of the public.
We finished the coaching session and the reporters came back to Karna. I went and sat down and no one even noticed. I was shocked but also I knew it could happen. I don't know if I felt second class or what but I knew that they would not talk to me.
Anyway, the day went well and the parents of the children paid us one hundred dollars for one and half hours work. Not bad I thought, so I shut my mouth and went shopping. I left Karna at the park to watch the rugby final with the Japanese hosts. We said we would do it again as the money is really good don't you think.
Apparently we will be on TV soon but I don't expect to see myself. It will probably be a documentary on Karna. We are beginning to turn in to the most famous JETs in Kochi. Karna is usually in the paper at least once a month and now we are getting on TV. Oh well, that's what you get when you come from NZ and you are twice as big as anyone else.
The Japanese seem to like the people from NZ and Australia better than the Americans or British. I can't blame them after spending time with Americans - they are so egotistical (look I remembered a big word). Anyway must go and look like I am working. Sayonara. (Make sure people email me, its lonely over here) Bye, bye..
Mrs Luke.
