On June 28, two nights before the final of the 2002 World Cup, a pre-final celebration will be held in Yokohama. On May 14 the Japanese World Cup organizing committee announced the details of the event, which will feature giant, waterborne floats and involve about 15,000 people. A concert featuring artists from around the world will be held, and famous players who have participated in previous World Cups are expected to take part in the celebration. This is the first time that "megafloats" have been used in this type of large-scale event. The megafloats, which measure 200 meters by 100 meters (220 by 110 yards), are currently off the coast of Yokosuka City's Natsushimacho. According to the Japanese organizing committee, they will be towed to Yokohama's Osanbashi Pier in early June, where a special stage and seats for the audience will be constructed. In addition to the 5,000 officials, athletes, and sponsors in attendance, 10,000 tickets will be given away to the public by way of a draw. For those fans who are unable to attend in person, a giant TV screen will be set up in the city's Yamashita Park so that everyone can enjoy the event together. Performing at the concert will be the American vocal group Boyz II Men, Japanese singer Yuki Koyanagi, and Hideki Togi, a performer of traditional Japanese music. Also taking part will be actress Norika Fujiwara, who is serving as a goodwill ambassador between Japan and South Korea, and former World Cup stars Zico of Brazil and Michel Platini of France.
