The Uruguayan team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup will hold
a pre-tournament camp in the cities of Susono and Gotemba, both in Shizuoka
Prefecture, from May 18 to 26. The two cities announced on April 1 that
Uruguay will play a friendly match against Yokohama F. Marinos at 2 p.m.
on May 25 at Susono Stadium.
Tickets for the game are not free for adults, but elementary
and middle-school kids from Susono and Gotemba and the town of Oyama will
be able to go for free if they send in their names. If more than 1,600
kids apply, there will be a draw to see who gets tickets.
Before the friendly match, on May 19 the two cities will
organize soccer classes for local elementary and middle-school kids at
Gotemba Stadium, where there will also be chances to get players' autographs
and take photos with them.
Other events are also planned. On May 24 and 25 Susono and
Gotemba will hold cultural events, and from May 17 to 26 there will be
an exhibition on Uruguay. (Shizuoka Shimbun)
