The correct answer is 3. Shurei no mon is found at Shuri Castle, in the city of Naha |
A long time ago Okinawa used to be called Ryukyu. In 1429 Sho Hashi united the various Ryukyu states and founded the Ryukyu Kingdom. He used Shuri Castle as his headquarters, and from then on the rulers of the Ryukyu Kingdom all lived in Shuri Castle. The castle has many gates, but Shurei no mon is the most famous. At the G8 Summit, the participating world leaders are scheduled to have dinner at the castle. Also, Japan's first-ever 2,000 yen note, which is being issued to mark the summit, will feature an illustration of Shurei no mon.
By the way, picture 1 shows Osaka Castle, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598) in the sixteenth century , while picture 2 shows Nagoya Castle, built in the seventeenth century, famous for its golden statues of the shachi, sea creatures that look like the dolphin.
