A2: |
The correct answer is 2, the Yoshinogari archaeological site |
Recently there has been a lot of excavation work to learn how people lived in Japan in prehistoric times. The Yoshinogari archaeological site is a hilly region spanning 36 hectares (89 acres). It contains about 50 residences, more than 2,500 tombs in the shape of a vase, and burial mounds measuring 40 meters on one side. These remains are believed to date from the fourth century BC to about the third century AD. In the tombs were discovered many items that had been brought from other countries, including bronze swords, glass beads, bronze mirrors, and other bronze artifacts. Many people are drawn here because researchers speculate that it might have been the site of Yamataikoku, a state in ancient Japan that is mentioned in an ancient Chinese chronicle that remains shrouded in mystery to this day.
