Access to Okinawa |
There are two ways to get to the main island of Okinawa-by air and by sea. Naha, boasting both an airport and a port, is the main entry point to Okinawa, and most airplanes and ships arrive here. It takes about two and a half hours to fly from Tokyo to Naha. From both Miyazaki, where the G8 Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be held, and Fukuoka, the venue of the G8 Finance Ministers' Meeting, it takes no more than an hour and a half.
For those who choose to travel on one of the cruise ships that link Honshu and Okinawa, the journey takes about two days from Tokyo or about a day and a half from Osaka, the largest city in western Japan. On the way to Naha these boats stop at some idyllic islands, offering passengers a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of Okinawa's ocean and land.
