A Japanese Crane, a large wading bird, has very long legs and a long neck, as well as a long, straight bill. The top of its head is red, the neck is black, and wings are white in color.
The birds have long been a popular symbol of longevity in Japan. Currently, about 350 of them live in the marshlands in Hokkaido. And efforts to breed the bird are being made in Hokkaido to protect the species.
