Visiting shrines

In Japan there are many shrines that people go to visit. This one is on the shore. The dark bits at the bottom are where small mussels grow, because the tide comes in to about where the orange line is.

Here is Mrs Luke visiting another Japanese shrine.

This photo was taken on New Year's Day, when there are huge queues of people lining up to get into shrines.

After you have visited the shrine, you should wash your hands in this special place.
