Humans change the landscape, leaving islands of forest or savanna, surrounded by homes and farms. These small areas may not be large enough to support a wild population of primates.
Notes:
An African farm. The human habitat of buildings and fields surrounds a small patch of forest.
The concept of habitat 'islands' may be new to the students. An island is an area of usable habitat surrounded by land (or water) which does not meet the needs of that species.
