What Do Polar Bears Eat?

Polar bears hunt animals that live in the Arctic Ocean and along its shoreline. Their favourite food is the seal. When there aren't many seals around, they will eat walrus and smaller whales like the beluga and narwhal.

During the summer, when there is less ice on the ocean, polar bears will spend more time on the land. Here they will eat wild berries just like black and brown bears.

Polar bears aren't fussy eaters. When food is scarce, they will eat caribou, seabirds, fish, eggs and even kelp. If they wander near northern communities, they will even eat garbage.
