 Tui

The tui has a beautiful song, and it can click, chortle and whistle. It has very dark bluegreen feathers that look almost black, and it has a little tuft of white at its throat.

Tuis eat berries, and drink nectar from flowers like this kowhai. Although they prefer to live in forests, they have adapted to living in suburbs where there are plenty of trees with the right kind of food for them.

Like the bellbird, they have tongues rather like a toothbrush, that can scoop up the honey in the flowers. They get pollen on their heads, and then carry the pollen to the next tree - so they do an important job of pollinating (like the bee).
