 Why?

This shows what happens if a stoat finds a Kaka.

FLYING

All of the non-endangered native birds can fly. This helps them to get away from their enemies. Many of the endangered birds, like the takahe, kiwi, and kakapo, cannot fly.

Before people came to New Zealand, this wasn't a problem. But people brought with them rats, and cats, and dogs, and ferrets and stoats.

These predators have nearly wiped out these birds. Once a lighthouse keeper found a very rare bird on a lonely island - there were only 18 of them left. But within 3 weeks, his cat has killed every one of them.
