Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to climb Mt Everest. Mt. Everest is 8709  metres. Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mt.Everest with his partner Mr. Tenzing.

27,900 feet up Hillary and Tenzing were stuck on the moutainside overnight. For Tent space they had to hack away at ice. The guy ropes were stuck and tied onto jagged rocks.

Sir Edmund Hillary reached the summit on 29 May 1953 at 11:30am
