Pay attention to the background

Learn to look carefully || Things sticking out of heads || Too much clutter

1. Learn to look carefully

You must always look carefully at the background of what you are taking a photo of. If there is too much glare, the photo will look terrible. If it is a clashing colour, it may also spoil the photo. And sometimes it just doesn't suit what you want the photo to say. So when you look at something and think, "I want a photo of that", look at what you will see in the background. If you move slightly, you may get a better photo.

2. Don't have things sticking out of people's heads

That can look really, really peculiar. Look at how weird the ornaments behind these two girls make them look. As a photographer, you need to notice those things, and move them before taking the photo.

3. Don't have too much clutter in the background

This is not a good photo of camels, because the buildings and cars in the background draw your eye, and you can't just concentrate on the camel. It would be better if you moved around a bit, and just had the plain sand and rocks behind them.
